Safety Practices

Here at Roarockit, we encourage all riders to practice safe riding. If you are going to be riding the board you built, make sure you wear protective gear at all times. Helmets, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads, and appropriate shoes are encouraged.

Make sure your helmet is certified and fits correctly. Please refer to the CDC’s guide for skateboard helmet safety: https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/pdfs/helmets/HeadsUp_HelmetFactSheet_Skateboard_508.pdf

Make sure to choose the type of skateboard or longboard that’s right for your style of riding. It is also important to keep your board in good condition and to inspect it for safety concerns before beginning any ride.

Be aware of your skill level, ensuring you work on the basics before moving on to more difficult tricks and techniques. You don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you lack the experience to deal with it safely.

Choose a safe place to ride and stay attentive to your surroundings to avoid collisions. Do not wear headphones while riding your board. Examine the area where you will be riding in advance to be aware of any bumps, holes, rocks, glass, or other obstacles. Avoid riding in crowded areas, and obey local laws on where you are or are not allowed to skate.

Wear appropriate clothing that allows for movement but will not drag on the ground and make sure you are not carrying any hard or sharp objects in your pockets. Wear bright coloured clothing to increase visibility.

Know what to do in an emergency. Please refer to the Red Cross for information about performing basic first aid: https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/first-aid/performing-first-aid/first-aid-steps

As always, be considerate of other skaters and non-skaters alike!
